Dr. Hope Dunbar
Dr. Hope Dunbar was born and raised on Long Island, New York, received her bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Vermont and then her doctorate in veterinary medicine at Cornell University. Hope has worked in the animal field and knew she wanted to be a veterinarian her whole life. She started out as a kennel cleaner in high school, then worked her way up to receptionist and eventually veterinary technician at multiple small animal hospitals for years before starting vet school. Her experience not only spans across the various veterinary positions she’s held but also the species she has worked with. She was president of a student run dairy farm in college, was a veterinary technician at the Equine Medical and Surgical Center in Three Forks, Montana the year before starting vet school and volunteered at the Cornell wildlife center throughout vet school too.
After graduation, she realized her biggest dream of how she could utilize this gift of a degree was to not only help animals but help the people that loved them too. The best health care for our pets starts when owners feel heard, supported and educated to make the right decision. It can be so stressful coming to the vet, for the animals and their people. She strives to be that doctor who can calm those nerves, figure out the best plan for you and your pet as a team and be the person you and your animal can trust their whole lives.
In her free time she is usually riding her horse, Meadow, or snowboarding down Mount Baker. She is married to her high school sweetheart who has supported her veterinary journey every step of the way and they have a border collie mix named Marcy and two very silly cats, Pudding and Bert.
